Central Council of Tibetan Medicine

I am honoured to be the Chairman of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine again at this critical juncture. This Medical Council (CCTM) was established on 5th of January 2004 at Dharamsala, HP, India after passing the “Tibetan Medicine Central Council Act.2003, by the 13th Tibetan Parliament in Exile with the final approval by His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama.

It is registered under the Societies Registration Act. 1860 (Reg. no. 4348/C/H/R/C) and is currently located at Gangchen Kyishong, Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India.

The primary role of the Council has been to register qualified doctors, to protect and safeguard patients and general public by regulating and registering standard Medical Colleges and Pharmaceutical Companies.

I, on behalf of the 7th term executive members of Central Council of Tibetan Medicine would like to thank all the Sowa Practitioners on trusting us to shoulder the responsibilities place on us. Despite challenges on our way, we pledge to do our best.

It was during my tenure as a Chairman of the CCTM, the legal recognition of Sowa Rigpa in India came into being. I was also called upon in the Indian Parliament during the process of Sowa Rigpa Legal recognition together with other stakeholders such as Prof. Geshe Ngawang Samten, Vice Chanceller of Saranath University, Dr. Tsewang Tamdin, visiting personal physician of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the then director of Tibetan Medical and Astro. Institute and Lama Chosphel Zotpa, President, Himalaya Buddhist Cultural Association, Delhi and Former Vice chairman, national commission for SC/ST commission, Govt. of India.  We were the witness how Sowa Rigpa has been legally recognized.

I hope Ayush and NCISM will give platform to CCTM wherever it is feasible and necessary for the preservation, promotion and standardization of Sowa Rigpa.

Let us all Sowa Rigpa practitioners come together to protect our rights and enjoy the benefits given by the law of the land.

Let’s grow together.

Best wishes,

Dr. Tsering Thakchoe Drungtso
