YUTHOG AWARD
Awarding of ‘Yuthok Award’ was started in the year 2009 after passing the law on the ‘Rules and Regulations of Yuthok Award’ by the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine.
Aim and objective of giving this award is to recognize and express gratitude to those distinguished individuals who have made special contribution in the development of Tibetan Medicine. This award is given after every three years of interval.
The process to select the nominee of the award, as per the rules and regulation of Yuthok Award, begins by constituting a five-member committee from various institutions of Tibetan Medicine under the aegis of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine. The committee works on selecting three to five nominees for the award through deliberation and submitting a report with complete profile substantiating the selection of particular nominees. The final selection of the nominee is made during the general meeting of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine by unanimous agreement or by casting vote of secrecy.
Out of four nominees who were approved by the selecting committee, Central Council of Tibetan Medicine has agreed to present this year Yuthog Award to Dr. Tsewang Tamdin, personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
BRIEF BIO-DATA OF DR. TSEWANG TAMDIN
Dr. Tsewang Tamdin underwent his schooling from the Central Schools for Tibetans, Dalhousie from 1963 to 1972. Did his graduation in Tibetan medicine receiving Kachupa Degree in year 1978 and also received “Menrampa Chungwa and “Menrampa Dringwa” Degree in the year 1987 and 1999 respectively.
Dr Tamdin served as residential Doctor of TMAI branch clinic Nizamuddin for 18 years since his appointment in 1984 and in between 2001 to 2004; Dr.Tamdin was nominated as the Director of Pharmaceutical Department and also appointed as a Visiting Doctor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and serving till date. Besides, Dr.Tamdin also served as a Deputy Director, Principal, Special Advisor and Director of Men-Tsee-Khang. Dr.Tamdin traveled many parts of world to give health talk, consult patients and conference on Tibetan medicine. Currently, Dr.Tamdin is a Vice Chairman to High Level Medical & Astro. Committee of Men-Tsee-Khang, Consult patients from all over the world from 5 a.m to 1 p.m regularly and also serving as an executive member of Central Council of Tibetan Medicine.
